ABOUT BLACK MARKET STREET

Black Market Street (BMS) USA is a platform for Alabama-based, Black-owned businesses to showcase their products or services to their neighbors and beyond. Entrepreneurship is thriving in Alabama! As the nation continues to contemplate its complicated relationship with race, injustice and equality, citizens of all backgrounds and ethnicities are seeking ways to show their support for Black-owned businesses. Enter Black Market Street USA!

Once in-person events are safe again, Black Market Street will relaunch its pop-up shopping experience! The traveling event will visit five Alabama cities with the goal of promoting local Black-owned businesses, and amplifying the critical role that these ventures play in Alabama's economy. By its conclusion, the 5-hour pop-up shop will have traveled to Montgomery, Birmingham, Demopolis, Huntsville and Mobile showcasing the promise that exists within Alabama's Black-business community. Each event will feature food trucks, music, and giveaways! 

Until then, Black Market Street USA is committed to promoting Alabama's Black entrepreneurship and minority-owned businesses by empowering them to grow their companies and providing them with the knowledge and role models to reach their maximum potential!

 
 

READY, SET, PITCH!

COMPETITION RULES & PARAMETERS:
 

In order to participate in the competition and have your business pitch featured on the Black Market Street social media platforms, the video must meet the following criteria:

  • Video must be :90 seconds or less. Anything over that will be disqualified.

  • Keep it professional. No profanity.

  • Keep the pitch focused on your business, products, services and/or brand. 

  • Be creative, but do not use any music, movie or television footage to which you don't have the rights

  • Bring your A+ game and put your best foot forward!

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
 

  • Videos entries will be accepted on a rolling basis until February 28, 2021. 

  • Videos will be judged by a panel of entrepreneurs and will receive points based on style, marketability, and level of social media engagement.

  • The top 20 videos will be featured on the upcoming Black Market Street docuseries, "Boss Talk" .

  • The top 10 videos will have the opportunity to participate in The G.I. Jones Foundation Small Business Bootcamp, where they will learn best practices for growing their companies and will pitch their business to potential angel investors.

  • The top 3 videos will receive cash prizes and sponsorship awards to help grow their businesses

    • 3RD PRIZE - $500.00​

    • 2ND PRIZE - $1,000.00

    • 1ST PRIZE - $2,000.00

Black Market Street invites Alabama Black business owners to submit a video pitching their products or services to the masses. All eligible videos will be featured on the Black Market Street YouTube Channel and promoted on our website and social media platforms! The top 20 pitch videos will be eligible for additional sponsored promotion of their businesses, cash awards and prizes, and the opportunity to participate in The G.I. Jones Foundation Small Business Bootcamp where they will learn best practices in business operations from some of the state's top entrepreneurs.

BMS BUSINESS BREAK
 

Alabama is full of Black business owners who have built multi-million dollar companies servicing sectors, both domestically and abroad. Black Market Street is excited to highlight some of the state's most successful Black-owned businesses in our upcoming online docuseries, "Boss Talk", where we will explore the challenges, perseverance, and business habits employed by prominent Alabama business leaders. Stay tuned for more information about the first episode!

We are also excited to launch our BMS Business Break platform - a reoccurring online chat about all things small business, featuring thriving entrepreneurs, business consultants, industry leaders, and elected officials from across the state!
